This travelling exhibition was created to support Papua New Guinea’s 50th anniversary of independence, with a series of banner bugs designed to tour regional communities. The project moved quickly, involving close collaboration between PNG museum staff, National Archives curators, and the exhibitions team. Working cross‑culturally shaped the visual direction, resulting in a design approach that felt both striking and respectful of PNG’s cultural identity. Patterned borders were used to frame text and images, keeping layouts clean and allowing the collection material to remain the hero.

The success of the travelling banners led to a complementary central hall display in Canberra, giving local visitors the chance to experience the exhibition as well. The project highlighted the value of clear communication, cultural sensitivity, and adaptable design thinking under tight timeframes.
